The display would work, and I could change the stations, inputs, and volume, but no noise...Take a speaker out of the system it's in - remove it - and test it on a household sound system or in another vehicle (ignore impedance) - seee if it crackles there. If it still crackles when you move it then look for replacement speakers. If the speaker does not crackle after you move it you then know that the crackling is not speaker related. Turn on your audio system without the car running. Put in a CD and set the CD player on pause, or insert a blank tape if you have a cassette deck. Turn up the volume to a normal listing level. If you hear a hissing sound, turn down the gain on the amplifier and turn up the volume on the receiver. The first dealer I took my car to wanted to charge me 4 hours of exploratory labor because they thought it was a short in a wire to a speaker. An electrical engineer friend was able to find the wiring diagram for the car and have me confirm that the pop/crackle/static occurred on both front and rear speakers, which are on different harnesses.So over a year now i had installed an aftermarket stereo which worked perfectly fine for a couple months after installing it properly making it a molex connector as a new harness.
