The translator is not a sinologist, but in the course of eleven years of training in the Rinzai School of Zen, Japanese and the reading of the old Chinese Zen texts had to be acquired. Even so, a translation of the Record could not have been undertaken without help. Soto Zen (Soto-Shu) Soto is the leading school of Zen Buddhism. It was initially founded in China as the Caodong lineage of the Chan school of Buddhism and was later imported to Japan in the thirteenth century by Dogen Zenji, after which it was called Soto Zen. In 2014 when Shishin Roshi stepped down as President of White Plum Asanga, he was acknowledged as an Elder in the organization.Rinzai did not understand the message of these blows and decided to leave the monastery.
